Thompson and Son Removals and Storage recently encountered a situation that might have been a disaster for other companies, but in our skilled hands, it was soon resolved, and the day was saved.

One of our two-man crews, including the general manager, Ben, was providing a full pack and partial load service for a gentleman in his 80s that was scheduled to take 2 days. The process was proceeding in good time, and everything was on schedule. However, as the crew began to load, the client opted to begin vacuuming in preparation for moving out and unfortunately tripped over the vacuum’s power cord.

The team administered first aid and called in our operations manager, Lee, who was performing a home survey nearby. Luckily for the client, the operations manager has 15 years of experience working frontline services with the NHS ambulance service.

It was decided that the client needed to attend the hospital and have an X-ray, but Lee was able to speak with the hospital and have them ready and waiting for the client, allowing him to avoid the 3-hour waiting time and be seen in under 45 minutes.

While the client was absent, the Thompson and Son crew completed the loading and carried on with the cleaning that the client had begun. They also opted to bring the client’s bed downstairs so that the client would not need to climb the stairs on his return from the hospital.

The team stayed in touch with the client to ensure that he was being looked after, and with his consent, they picked up the keys for the new property and offered to collect the client from the hospital. He was soon back home and expressed gratitude at the foresight of the team in moving the bed to allow him to rest and recover that night.

On day 2, the move to the new home was completed and the client was able to begin settling into his new home and recovering. However, before everyone said their goodbyes, the client wished to express his heartfelt thanks to Liam Wilcox (Porter), Ben Lewis Thompson (General Manager), and Lee Wooden (Operations Manager and Ambulance Technician). Not only were these team members a credit to the company, but they also showcased the compassion and consideration that we desire our teams to show on every move.

Unfortunately, this is not the first incident that has occurred on-site during a move, with clients having become overwhelmed with the stress of moving or injuring themselves by trying to move heavy items best left to the team. Luckily, with a trained Ambulance Technician as part of the team, We are well-placed to handle these problems with professionalism.
